How to bring Geocaching to the next level...

There is not much I can say about the recent EXTREME GEOCACHING OUTING. I will have to let the pictures do the talking.

Most people thought we were duck hunters. Little did they know geocaching is an animal friendly sport.

Oh, its been brought.

Brian and his Gameface ON.

I don't think Scott can fully understand the beauty of a Spring, TX waterfall.

The only thing we were missing was "The Duke"

Paul McCartney 2005

So I was fortunate enough once again to be good buds with Scott and get invited to a Paul McCartney concert for the second time. What else can you say? It's Sir Paul McCartney and he rocked the house as usual. As a result, I dusted off my old Beatles album and have let my stereo continue to remind me how awesome they are. After the concert we went out with his parents and drank some good beers and listened to good conversation.

What?

There is nothing wrong with building forts at the age of 25. It's also pretty cool when you have John Wayne singing campfire songs and being your lookout man.

Oh wait! I have to cut this short because Scott is back for Tday and we are GOING TO PAUL MCCARTNEY TONIGHT!!!

My Grandfather - "Buckshot Underwood"

I read this article a while back but I guess it just recently was published in The Register-Herald in West Virginia. It's about my Grandfather from my Mom's side who we call, Granddad, who was quite the football coach. He passed away in December of 1985 so I don't remember too much, but I do remember sitting on the floor in front of his rocking chair and him teaching me how to tie a shoelace. My dad played for him at Port Arthur and always refers to him as "coach" which I always get a kick out of. He said the way he use to work them in practice would be illegal today. I don't know if that one of those "Son, I use to walk 10 miles barefoot in the snow to school everyday" stories or not. Whatever Granddad did seemed to work b/c I don't think he had too many losing seasons. Today, he is referred to as a "legend" which to me is pretty amazing and an honor to have him as my Grandfather. There are always the small things that remind me of him. For instance, the awesome chairs for my kitchen table were originally from the press box at the University of Kentucky. Even one of the coaches at my middle school knew him well. There is even a rumor going around that some of his daughters got football scholarships to college! Maybe that explains why my Mom is the biggest sports fan out of all the Pace's. If you are interested you should check this article out...

I believe that is him telling Jimmy Johnson to go run laps and to suck it up!

OTS - Old Town Spring

Brian and I found it necessary to make a day trip to Old Town Spring this afternoon. Its always been right down the street but neither of us had been in there in a while. We went their primarily for the Civil War museum. The war buff with the 1 foot white beard asked if I was in to Reenactments, I of course said "heck yes I am"! He told me a few quick stories and then invited us out to this years HUGE reenactment near Hempstead this weekend. Get this, 2 battles both starting at 2 pm Sat/Sun. Were so going. I was hoping to campout but I guess that is not an option. BTW, I know very little about the Civil War.

Here is a link to the Great Battle

Its going to be awesome!

Anyways, we walked up in down the streets full of shops selling "High-end Crap" as I like to call it. We were in search of something sweet for the apartment. No luck. We had a good time though I even picked up a sweet cd full of Smokey Mountain hymns.

Brian planning our plan-of-attack. You just cant jump into OTS empty handed.
After we got our game plan finalized Brian staged an Anti-Christmas protest. We were chased away by an angry mom, hey, they kid how to find out one day.

Only fitting...

Spring has history! Who knew

Geocaching - It Rules.

Finally got to do some geocaching back home here in Houston. Took some newbies out with me a few nights ago, and let's just say the geocaching bug bit them pretty nicely. Since it was night I took them to some local "classics" and we attempted to find a new one but failed. I had them dress appropriately, which I am confident paid off in the end.

Today, Brian and I headed back to the one failed geocache and found a few travel bugs. I am thinking about giving these to Scott and let them get in the mix over in Hawaii.

Here they are after their life changing first find...

Skittles and The Vet

Skittles Pace has been our cat for for about 11 years and is by far the coolest cat in the world. Yes she likes to bite little children but hey... what cool cat wouldn't? Skittles can be somewhat "high strung" and has been diagnosed with Kitty OCD. See, Skittles honestly thinks that my parent's house is really HER house and we are all just visiting She has been working on her niceness but still doesn't care for the vet. On her medical sheet they have big red letters stating to be careful when handling. Yesterday, I was the lucky one to take her to the vet and found myself backing away from the operating table inching closer to the door because I was scared of what she might do. That's pretty bad when you are scared of your own pet when she comes out into public. Hey! That's kinda how my parents feel about me when they bring me out. Anyways, Skittles acted the best she has every acted at the vet last night and I am very happy, she only hissed at the vet. Usually, she freaks out and the vet has to put on gloves and throw a towel over here, its bad. Man, when I am in Htown on time off I really have to dig hard for a sweet blog.

Stephen Lynch

Josh, Alan, Kim and I went to the funniest concert I have ever attended. Stephen Lynch was hillarious. His humor is pretty sick and twisted so if you are easily offended then I would definitely avoid him. He already has a few cds out and just came out with another one.

Check him out...

MySpace.com

Ok, I'll be the first to admit that I have been making fun of this myspace.com thing for a long time now. However, as of yesterday I cannot get enough of it! I have been working on this profile thing and browsing/stalking people all day long. I am not taking it too seriously as you will be able to see once you click on the link below, but I think its just the whole all about ME thing that is addicting j/k (no I'm not). I don't see myself actually meeting people on this thing, just making a few people laugh would be more ideal.

I want to leave you with this pic I found on a backup disk of my old computer. Trevor, this would of been my NASCAR "Magnum" pose for the race this past weekend.

It's Go Time

Since that old fart Lance Armstrong retired, Big George Hincapie is going to be one of the Discovery Team leaders this year at the Tour. I mean the guy can already get a top ten while helping Lance win it, now he is going to be one of the protected riders. The French better get their fake-positive drugs tests ready to go, because its go time! I bet he can smell they podium girl's French perfume already.

This is all going to happen after he wins Paris-Roubaix and a few other Spring Classics.

Show me the $$$

I don't do political posts or anything that could be controversial which this really isn't. However, reading my daily dose of CNN (browsing through headlines) I came across this guy...

Who is this you ask? Exxon Mobile CEO Lee Raymond! Duh! His company posted its largest corporate profit this year! Congrats! That's funny because I will probably be telling my offspring (in Chinese of course) that 2005 marked $3 gas prices and was the downfall of what we once called a society. I am not going to start a debate about oil because I like 99% of this country like to drive and take for granted what oil provides and how cheap it actually is compared to the rest of the world. Guilty as charged.

Raymond, Oh Raymond. I bet this guy couldn't start his own lawnmower. I am not trying to be stereotypical but spending a lot of time in airports some of these big wigs have little common sense and it bugs me. I mean half of them are living on another planet. Yes I will never know anything about profits margins, dividends, stocks, and couldn't run a company like that but hey at least I would smile and say thanks to the guy throwing Jet A into my leer jet and not allow my wife to scream at the airport personnel b/c her Louis Vuitton suitcase wasn't in the right seat. I am being VERY general here so don't bust a screw in the old knoggin thinking about this. Sorry I just saw that pic and thought to myself "geez, this guy has goober written all over him". Anyways, thanks for the gas last night, I needed it.

I bet he bought Bush a shiny new extra gas tank people put in the back of their trucks to fill up tractors on the farm. I wonder if they come in Burberry?

Bitumont Tower

This is a belated post and actually happened in Fort McMurray, Alberta right before I left, but hey, watcha gonna do?

PS - I had to give my glasses to the glasses people for new lenses who in return give it to the lenses people, and I cant see. My head is about 4 inches from my laptop screen right now.

Anyways, we were mapping the Northern mine of Syncrude called Aurora. We usually prefer not to have to touch down in the refinery because then you have to where the whole fire-retardant suit and hard hat thing. Instead we found a little forestry lookout tower called Bitumont Tower, off in the woods that would be a ok place to land and set up a GPS antenna.

These towers are set up so people can sit in them and monitor or look out for fires I guess. Not exactly an exciting job but if you are a crazy guy who likes to hang out and build bars, plant trees upside down, and dig moats around upside down trees then you are in luck! I only heard a few stories about this guy but basically every summer he come out and lives in this remote location. He spends a lot of his time building things like his bar "Speak Easy" and upside down trees. I doubt he is an official member of the Alberta Fire Department, but I bet he gets the job done.

Observe.

Good Article - Good Timing or What!?

So I just got back from Fort McMurray, Alberta, a place I had never heard of before, and now it is on the front page of the Houston Chronicle.

http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/front/3440367

If your gonna get in a wreck...

...Don't do it on I45 at 3am because it will take the cops 1.5 hrs to show up!

don't worry, it wasn't me in the wreck. I was the caring citizen who stopped when the culprit of the wreck cruised home.

The story...

On the way back to the North side of Houston I was behind an Acura and to the right of it was an older style Ford Ranger. The Ranger started to slowly veer into the back right wheel of the Acura sending it into the center median at 70 mph and then across the highway to the shoulder. It hit pretty hard and I really thought the driver was going to be injured. No one seemed to want to stop and I almost hit another car trying to pull over. One other guy stopped for a little bit, but left once we saw the driver was pretty shaken, but not badly hurt. At first I thought he was hurt since the driver side car door never opened but once I approached the wrecked car he opened the door and he was just staring with a nice knot on the side of his head. I called 911 and told them to BE SURE TO TAKE 1/5 HRS TO SHOW UP BECAUSE ITS ONLY A HIGH SPEED WRECK. Anyways, the driver was an Asian guy from San Antonio visiting some friends, who was originally from Houston. He didn't speak English that well, but kept on thanking me for staying and being a witness. We waited and chatted, the ambulance came, the cops came, and of course the tow trucks. He didn't have anyone to call so I dropped him off at a hotel and hopefully he gets everything done he needs to without too much of a hassle. I am sure I will get a phone call from his insurance. Otherwise, they will probably assume at 3am he was drunk and it was completely his fault. I bet the driver of the Ranger feels like a Saint this morning. I am still surprised no one stopped except two people. Well, I didn't get home until 5am but still glad I helped the guy out.

Moving Again.

Eric asked me while back how many different places I had lived after High School. I said, "Wow Eric, that is a great question!"

I am going to figure it out now...

College Station

Willow Wind - Apartment 40 oz.

San Marcos

The Zone
Hillside Ranch

Hawaii

The Banyan Tree - Scott's Pad

Houston

My true home - Casa de Pace
Jeff's House
My current apartment with Brian

Answer = 7

Thats not the characteristics of a nomad is it? Does the fact I can move ALL my belongings in one truck load and one SUV load help that idea?

Two trips is better than 3!
